8/8/2023 0 Comments Be a good steward of money![]() ![]() With Biblical stewardship, we are tasked with managing the money, possessions, time and talents He entrusts us with for His glory. The dictionary definition of stewardship is “the job or supervising or taking care of something, such as an organization or property.” In other words, a steward manages something for the benefit of someone else. When done properly it keeps our priorities straight and brings balance in our lives. It enables our thoughts and priorities to be refocused on Him, while providing a tool to meet our needs and bring Him glory. Who or what are you serving?īiblical stewardship provides a path to view and use the money and possessions God entrusts us with appropriately. Will we hold loosely to things of this world and desire Him and His glory, or will we hold more tightly to the things of this world and put Him in a lower place in our lives? Jesus said in Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Jesus said in Matthew 6: 21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” What we value determines where our heart is. It isn’t because God needs money, but because money and possessions reflect what we truly think about God. Money and possessions are the second most talked about subject in the Bible (following the kingdom of heaven). This post will briefly look at what stewardship is, why it is important and how we can focus on having the mindset of a steward. However, we will delve more deeply into the many areas that this idea impacts in other posts on this blog. ![]() Though Christians may be familiar with the underlying principles, they often do not ponder the deeper application to their lives.īiblical stewardship is such a broad subject, that we will only skim the surface here. Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest.The idea of Biblical stewardship is not new, but can seem foreign in our current culture. See, you have what is yours.’ “But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things enter into the joy of your master.’ “And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. See, I have gained two more talents.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things enter into the joy of your master.’ “Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, ‘Master, you entrusted two talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.’ His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave. The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you entrusted five talents to me. “Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and *settled accounts with them. But he who received the one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money. In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability and he went on his journey. “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. ![]()
